| Grandfather Mountain: April Dollar Days |
Date: 4/1 - 4/30
All those that work and reside in Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes counties, along with guests traveling in the same vehicle, are invited to visit Grandfather Mountain for $1 during the month of April with proof of local employment or residency.
The discount is also extended to students attending colleges and universities in the High Country and to guests traveling in the same vehicle with those eligible for the April discount. Please present a drivers’ license, college ID, or local utility bill as proof of High Country residency. An employee identification badge or pay stub can be used to show employment at a High Country business.

| Grandfather Mountain - Balsam Range Live in Concert |

The award-winning bluegrass band Balsam Range will appear at the Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m.
Balsam Range, named after the Haywood County, NC mountains where the members of the group call home, have been nominated for Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Emerging Artist awards by the International Bluegrass Music Association. This “up close and personal” concert by the Western North Carolina tradition-bearers at Grandfather Mountain is a can’t-miss opportunity.
Advance ticket sales begin Monday, April 9 and end Saturday, April 21 at www.grandfather.com. $25/adult and $15/child ages 4 to 12. The ticket price includes all day admission to Grandfather Mountain and admission to the concert.
Grandfather Mountain annual pass holders and others who have already purchased admission to the park for the day can buy tickets to the concert online for $7 in advance or at the Nature Museum for $12 on the day of the show.

Celebrating a silver anniversary in 2012, MerleFest 25 will welcome stars such as Marty Stuart, Tedeschi Trucks Band and the original Bela Fleck and the Flecktones to the Watson Stage.
The annual celebration of Americana music in honor of Doc Watson and his late son, Merle Watson, takes place on the compus of Wilkes Community College April 26 to 29, 2012.
Doc Watson, who was celebrated with a life-sized bronze sculpture in downtown Boone in June, will again serve as the honorary host of the festival. He will be joined by such MerleFest mainstays as his grandson, Richard, Sam Bush, T. Michael Coleman, Donna the Buffalo, David Holt, Jim Lauderdale, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Tony Rice, Peter Rowan and the Free Mexican Airforce, Tony Williamson aswell as many other festival favorites.
The MerleFest box office will open for 2012 ticket sales on Tuesday, November 8, at 2:00 PM. Ticket purchases can be made on the web at www.merlefest.org or by calling 1-800-343-7857. An early bird ticket discount is available through March 12, 2012.
