Boone: "Heart of the
High Country"

Boone is a town
comprised of 14,000 year
round inhabitants and is
known as the "Heart of
the High County." The High
Country is a geographic
mountain region in
Western North Carolina
comprised of seven
counties, including the
most visited Avery and
Watauga Counties. Boone
is located in Watauga
County and
derives its
name from the famous
pioneer and explorer
Daniel Boone. Daniel
Boone perhaps described
Boone best: "No populous
city, with all the
varieties of commerce
and stately structures,
could afford so much
pleasure to my mind, as
the beauties of nature I
found here."
The Town of Boone was
incorporated in 1872 and
has the highest
elevation, at 3,300
feet, of any town its
size east of the
Mississippi River. Boone
is a four-season
playground for outdoor
enthusiasts and was
recently recognized by
travel journalists as
"an ultimate outdoor
adventure destination"
in the Southeast. Boone
and neighboring Blowing
Rock are home to the
Blue Ridge Parkway, Tweetsie Railroad,
Horn
in the West, Grandfather
Mountain, Appalachian
Summer Festival, The
Blowing Rock, and
Boone
NC Golf.
